My Dance Page March 2022
*We have started preparing for our recital, learning, growing and working together as a group. We have so much fun and we all look forward to the “Big Day”. Here is some information as we look ahead to “Our 20th Annual Dance Recital”.
*3 Important Reminders!!! Please remember ballet classes must wear hair in a bun & short hair must be pulled back in an elastic headband. Water bottles may be brought to class, but must contain water. We cannot have any sugary drinks on the dance floor. Lastly, no cell phone use allowed in the classroom. Phones must stay in dance bags during and between classes. We appreciate your cooperation in teaching your children the discipline and art of dance.
*Also, as we are preparing for the recital, attendance is very important. Children need to be in class in order to learn placement & choreography because it affects everyone. We work together and depend on each other as a group. It helps to come and watch instead of not attending at all (unless you are sick). And we do appreciate a call to let us know if you are going to be out.
*Our “20th Annual Dance Recital” is confirmed for Friday, June 10 at 7pm. The location is Lifehouse Church in Hagerstown, MD. Save the date!
*Dress rehearsals are June 8 and June 9 from 5-8pm. Beginners, Advanced Beginners and Acro ONLY come to rehearsal June 8. If you are in the leveled ballet classes and ONLY take ballet, you also solely come to the June 8 rehearsal. Everyone else attends both rehearsal nights. We will NOT have a rehearsal week at the studio this year due to COVID, so your dancer must be present for dress rehearsals at Lifehouse Church. More information will be discussed at the Recital Meeting. Check the Recital Board in the lobby periodically to stay informed.
*The Recital Meeting is on Tuesday, March 15. This meeting is to provide information & answer questions especially for new dance parents. We will discuss everything involved during the “recital season”. The meeting will begin at 8:00pm and last 45 minutes to an hour. We strongly urge new parents to attend, but all are welcome.
*Recital Fees are due by Saturday, March 19. This is $65.00/family and covers the cost of auditorium rental, lighting & sound techs, and any other costs that are involved with the performance.
*During the month of March you will receive an e-mail with a link to sign up for recital tights. If in doubt…size up! Everyone will receive one pair of tights at no extra cost. If you want, we will get your tights for Jazz/Tap/Acro or extra Ballet tights. Extra tights are $10 each & payment must be received before the order goes in at the end of March.
*Picture Weekend is set for Friday & Saturday, May 6 & 7. This year our photos will be taken at Willow Blue located at 2 W Water St, Smithsburg, MD 21783. You will receive a link to sign up for a photo session time that works for you. Due to COVID, we are only taking individuals and sibling dance photos. Heather Corbin, the photographer, will photo shop all dancers in to create class photos. She did a great job with this last year!
Easter break is April 11-16. There will be no classes this week.
As always, we appreciate your continued support and if you have any questions, please feel free to call or text us 301-824-3444. You can also check the website for more information and email us at mydancestudio1@gmail.com
Thank You!

November-December 2021
The holiday season rapidly approaches! It can be a really busy time for all of us. Stop and take a moment for a breath of gratitude and joy. We wish everyone a blessed holiday season filled with peace and love!
This newsletter has activities & events for 2 months. Don’t forget to come in and check the bulletin board/calendar periodically for updates and important information. Also, “My Dance Page” along with other updates are posted on our website at: mydancestudio1@gmail.com
-Remember to follow the Dress Code. When we are prepared, we are confident. When we look the part, we dance the part! Buns are required for Ballet 1 and levels beyond. It takes time away from class for teachers to help students pull their hair back and it’s not fair to the dancers that are prepared.
-Nutcracker season begins Wednesday, December 1. This is a tradition at “My Dance Studio”. The dancers have a great time as we learn about this holiday ballet classic utilizing videos & music, choreography & props and variations of the story. All classes take on a seasonal flair for this festive time of year.
-The “Giving Tree” to help senior citizens at Farney-Keedy Retirement & Assisted Living will be up after Thanksgiving Break. We do this instead of gifts for the teachers (please). Here’s how it works – pick up a gift tag and bag from the tree in the lobby and return it with item(s) written on the tag. The gift bags need to be returned no later than Saturday, December 11, so that we can get them to the center on schedule. Please help us to help others during this season of giving!
-Looking ahead, we will be measuring for costumes during the month of December. We know it seems early, but we order at the end of December to receive costumes in a timely fashion. The cost for recital costumes is $65.00/costume.
Please note the list of dates at the bottom for this newsletter for deadlines.
-If you have any questions feel free to call/text/email us. We will respond as quickly as possible Thanks to all and have a wonderful holiday season! Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2022!!

My Dance Page October 2021
As we begin a new month, we are moving forward with our dance curriculum and settling into our
classes. Everyone is showing real enthusiasm and working very hard.
Here are a few things to note:
*Dress Code (proper dress, shoes and hair) is a steadfast rule for all to follow and is part of the
discipline of dance. It makes a difference in the children’s attitude and as they see themselves in the
mirror. We can see them become more confident and prepared to dance.
*Celebrating 20 years- My Dance Studio has been an important part of the Smithsburg Community for
2o years. In recognition, we are offering more than just our regular long sleeve shirt this fall. Every
dancer will be coming home with an order form outlining the options. Orders will be in before
Christmas, in case you would like to save any of your purchases as gifts for your dancer(s).
*Staying healthy-Please continue to be vigilant as we move into the cold/flu season. Thank you to our
families for being so careful about keeping dancers at home that may be contagious with a virus. Aside
from all the disinfecting, you are the reason we are able to keep on dancing!
*Take It Leave It- Our bins with shoes and clothing are being moved from the lobby. If you need
something, just ask and we can get the bins back out for you.
*Costumes- This month there will be costumes hanging in the lobby. Please feel free to take one or
two as a Halloween costume or as fun dress up clothes for home.
*Lost and Found- We have a lost and found basket in the studio near our exit door. If your dancer is
missing something, dismissal is a good time to ask to see the basket.
*Introducing Ms. Lily- Ms. Lily joined us this summer to teach Hip Hop. She will make guest
appearances in Jazz 3 and Jazz 4 this year to offer hip hop training. She may also be your dancer’s
substitute teacher from time to time. Here is what she would like to share with you.
“My name is Lily Sanbower, I’m 21 years old and I’ve been a dancer for fifteen years. I have
trained and competed in Pennsylvania, New York, and Virginia. My favorite styles to choreograph are
contemporary and hip hop. These are also my favorite styles of dance. I have been a dance instructor
since I was fourteen and love that I get to share my passion for dancing with the students I teach."
*As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to call/text/email. We will get back to you as
soon as possible. Thank You!

other parents can safely access the bins as well.
